Sound familiar?

You know it's in a box. Just not which one.

"Where are the Christmas lights?"

Opening every box to find one thing

Ten boxes down, dust everywhere, and the thing you wanted was in the first one you put back.

"Who's borrowed my drill?"

Lending things and forgetting

Tools, camping gear, the good extension lead. They go out and never quite come back.

"We've definitely got one somewhere."

Buying things you already own

Another extension lead, more screws, a second spirit level. Because finding the first one is too much hassle.

How it works

Add, list, label. Then just search.

No training, no setting up. Most people add their first box in under a minute.

1

Add your boxes

Tap "Add a box", say what's going in it and where it sits, like "Top shelf, left". Each box gets its own number, like G-01 for the first box in the Garage, and you can give it a colour to match the real one.

  • Rooms for the garage, loft, shed, cellar or anywhere else
  • Colours, including see-through boxes
  • Bring in a list you already have in Excel
2

List what's inside

Type each thing and tap Add. Add lots at once with commas, say how many you've got, and add a photo or a note if it helps, like "charger in the case".

  • "tent, sleeping bags, 2 x head torches" adds all three
  • Photos of anything, from your camera
  • Notes, how many, and where each thing is now
3

Stick on a label

Print a QR label at home and stick it on the front of the box. Point your phone camera at it and the box opens, showing everything inside. No app to open first.

  • Print on A4 sticker paper, or plain paper and tape
  • The label shows the box number, room and where it sits
  • Change what's inside any time without reprinting
4

Find anything in seconds

Type what you're looking for into the search bar. It tells you which box it's in and where that box sits, and whether it's been lent or taken out.

  • Small spelling mistakes are fine
  • "Xmas" finds Christmas, "telly" finds TV
  • Search for a person to see what you've lent them
Everything you need

Simple to use. Surprisingly clever.

Search everything

Find any thing, box, room or note as you type, even with a spelling mistake. "Xmas" finds Christmas.

QR labels

Print labels at home. Point your phone camera at one and the box opens.

Photos

Snap a photo of anything so you know exactly which one it is.

Lent, out, sold or binned

Mark what's happened to things, even just some of them, like 10 of your 50 screws.

History

See who added, moved or lent what, and when. Search it any time.

Works with no signal

Garages and lofts often have no signal. Rummagio keeps working and saves when you're back.

Excel in and out

Bring in a list you already have, and download a copy of yours whenever you like.

No app to download

Use it in your web browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and add it to your home screen.

Colours and rooms

Give boxes a colour to match the real ones, and keep each room separate.

Undo

Removed something by mistake? Tap Undo and it's back.

Help on every screen

Step-by-step guides with pictures, and a help button that answers questions.

Private

Only you can see your boxes and photos. Kept securely in London.

Lent, taken out, sold or binned

Know who's got the camping stove.

Mark any thing as lent and say who has it. Search tells you straight away, and History shows when it went.

  • Lent to someone, taken out, sold or binned. Things in the box need nothing.
  • Lend just some of something, like 4 of your 12 paintbrushes. It splits into two lines and joins back up when they come home.
  • Search for "Mike" to see everything Mike has borrowed.
  • Every change is kept in History, with the date, time and who did it.

For every room

Wherever you keep boxes, Rummagio keeps track.

Each room gets its own letters, so you can tell at a glance where a box belongs.

Getting organised

Finally know what's in the garage, and stop buying things twice.

Moving house

Number every box as you pack, and know what's in each one when you unpack.

A good clear-out

Mark things as sold or binned, and keep a record of what went.

Tools and kit

Keep track of tools, camping gear and the things that get lent out.

Christmas and seasons

Decorations, fancy dress, summer clothes. Find them when the time comes round.

Hobbies and crafts

Wool, paints, model parts, fishing tackle. Know what you've got before you buy more.

Keepsakes and papers

Photos, school reports, old letters. Know which box holds what without unpacking it.

Storage units

Know what's in the unit across town without driving over to look.

Labels

Labels that do the remembering.

  • Each label shows the box number, what's in it, the room and where it sits.
  • Point your phone camera at the QR code and the box opens, showing everything inside.
  • Print on A4 sticker paper at home. Plain paper and clear tape works too.
  • Change what's in a box any time. The label stays the same, so there's no reprinting.

Better than a spreadsheet

Most people start with a list. Here's why they switch.

A spreadsheet is a fine start. Rummagio is that list, made for when you're stood in the garage holding a box. Already got one? Bring it straight in.

Joshua Griffin and his dad
Our story

Built for my dad. Now for everyone.

It started with my dad. He had a garage full of boxes and no idea what was in any of them. So I made him a spreadsheet. It sort of worked, but it was hard to update, hard to search, and no use when you're stood in the garage holding a box.

So I built Rummagio. Simple enough for my dad, who was the first person to use it.

Questions

Good questions, quick answers.

What is Rummagio?

Rummagio is a home storage app. You list the boxes in your garage, loft, shed or anywhere else, write down what's in each one, and stick a QR label on the front. Then you can search for anything and see exactly which box it's in and where that box sits.

Is it free?

Yes. Rummagio is free to use right now, with no card needed. A Pro version with extras like household sharing is coming later, and the free version isn't going away.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Rummagio works in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen so it opens with one tap, just like an app.

How do the QR labels work?

Each box has its own label with a QR code, the box number, its name, the room and where it sits. Print it on A4 sticker paper (or plain paper and clear tape), stick it on the box, and point your phone camera at it. The box opens in Rummagio, showing everything inside.

Do I need to reprint a label when I change what's in a box?

No. The label just points to the box, so you can add, move or take out things as often as you like and the label stays the same.

Does it work in a garage or loft with no signal?

Yes. Rummagio keeps a copy of your list on your phone, so you can look things up and make changes with no signal. It saves them as soon as you're back online.

Can I use it on more than one phone or computer?

Yes. Sign in with the same email on each one and you'll see the same boxes. If two of them change things at the same time, even with no signal, Rummagio puts both sets of changes together when they're back online.

Can I keep track of things I've lent out?

Yes. Mark any thing as lent and type who has it. Search will then say "Lent to Mike", and History shows when it went. You can also mark things as taken out, sold or binned, even just some of them, like 10 of your 50 screws.
